Greetings everyone! Today’s post will focus on the types of stocks found in the stock market and their corresponding sectors.
There are five main types of stocks, which are:
Cyclical stocks: all of these companies have a general pattern in their stock performance that follows the general economic cycles. When the economy is prospering, these companies tend to prosper; when the economy is downturned, these companies tend to lose revenue.
Defensive stocks: all of these companies tend to be stable despite changes in the overall economy. This is because their products or services are necessary regardless of the state of the economy. They usually pay dividends as well.
Growth stocks: all of these companies’ stocks are growing at a rate above the market average.
Blue-chip stocks: all of these companies pay dividends, and are large and well-established companies. Over the long time period the companies have been operating, they have had dependable earnings and stock performance.
IPO stocks: an IPO (or an initial public offering) is when a company joins the stock market and is giving everyday investors (like you) a chance to purchase stock in their company. IPOs tend to go through periods of price volatility in the beginning as the market is still deciding what the perfect price for their stock is.
